Friday Steals!

FRIDAY
 {get it...it's 'black' and 'Friday'....I feel the need to have a photo or something with each post, so here ya go}

I ventured out for my second Black Friday extravaganza!  Things to note for next year if I decide to go at it again...Bigger, Warmer Coat, gloves, hat, hot cocoa, and gum! I was FREEZING!  Oh, and do NOT attempt to go alone!  We had a group of 5 of us to manage all the lines and such.
Here was our schedule:
9:30pm arrived at Toys R Us and got in line {had someone there a hour ahead already saving a spot in line but we still had to wait until about another hour before actually getting into the store - too many people}
11:45pm arrived at Walmart and met up with our one hubby that tagged along to get a spot next to the Jeep Powerwheels I NEEDED for my boys.  12:01am was NUTS!  Since there were only 16 Jeeps at the store, boxes were literally flying, but I got one for my boys, and my friend got her girls' too! Score!
1:45am arrived at Kohls.  We decided to divide and conquer here.  Kohls opened at 3am, but Target opened at 4am so one of my friends and I went to park our booties at Target and gave out lists to the Kohls bunch.  We took their lists and got in line around 2:30am.  Who does that?!
4:00am walked into Target and got everything on our lists!!  I even got a Wii Fit Plus - thank you Santa!
4:45am went back to Kohls to get my friend's car, then booked it to Game Stop by my house.
5:10am went to Game Stop to pick up 2 previously owned Nintendo DS game systems.  Good thing they had them because I got games at Walmart already.
6:00am arrived home!  I had to hurry and hide all the loot because I have 1 early riser and needed to be done before he woke up!

All in all - a Success!  I wanted to post about my actual savings, but I am still recovering from sleep deprivation and can't count worth a hill of beans right now.  Let's just say, Christmas is about 85% finished and I couldn't be happier!  Plus it was loads of fun to go at it with friends!

The only thing left on my list is a new racket for racquetball, and a Silhouette SD!  I am really hoping to win one of these from House of Hepworths, so fingers crossed because I have LOADS of ideas for that little baby!

FREE Baby Sling

It's funny that I just got this email because about 2 days ago, I got my FREE sling from a previous promo that was offered from Uddercovers.com {I got the one in this picture}.  It is pretty great and Jaxson and I used it today to fold laundry.  I felt like I had a third arm!  Anyway, check out this email and go ahead and order your very own.  Even if you don't have a young one, still take advantage and store up some killer baby shower gifts!

Coupons Take Holidays Too!

This is my favorite part of the year!  So much time with family, such good food, and fantastic shopping!!   But alas, I do get really bummed out when I don't have any coupons in my papers.  So, to give you fair warning, coupons take holidays too!  Here's a quick list of the holiday dates that will NOT include coupons:

November 28 (this weekend)
December 19
December 26

Take a minute and place vacation holds for your delivery on these days.  It's super easy!  Check out this post on how to access your account online and then you are done.  The best part is that you can opt to extend your subscription so you will actually be credited for these days you did not receive the paper.

Oh! One more thing...Check back soon for the 2011 coupon schedule!  In the past, the first week of the year yields several coupon inserts to make up for the missing weeks.  If you do not already get the paper, click this link to place your order.  I will make sure your papers begin on a day that actually has coupons ;-).
Thanks, and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

What? No Coupons?!

With the holidays coming up, here's a little reminder about your newspaper subscription.  There will be NO coupon inserts on November 27th, the Sunday after Turkey Day.  You will want to place a vacation hold on your papers for that weekend.  For a quick and easy way to do that online, check out this post from a while back explaining how to do that.  Also, you have the option of donating your unused papers to local schools.  How cool is that?!

Holiday Lowest Prices

Can you believe it's almost Thanksgiving? Where has the time gone? If you missed last week's killer Smith's sale (as you can see from Jen's post below!!), there's still great stuff to be had! There are great deals on turkeys, produce and all your Thanksgiving fixin's. I would highlight a specific store, however, several stores have great prices! And like Jen mentioned about her several (wink, wink) cans of soup, donating food to those in need goes a long way.

PS - Remember these lists will last until 11/25. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Soup's ON!!

I LOVE a good sale!!  I sure hope you all were able to take advantage of the promo that Smith's was having last week.  I have had a crazy busy few weeks and knew I was going to miss out if I didn't hurry.  So after I cleaned out my coupons, I headed to the store just in the knick of time!
I did not take a picture this time because it would have looked obscene.  Here's a rundown of what I got:

5 Boxes of Quick Cook Pasta
3 Bags of Spaghetti
5 Boxes of Krusteaz Cookie Mix
6 cans Cranberry Sauce
5 Tubes of Colgate Toothpaste
7 Colgate Wave Toothbrushes
6 Boxes of Pillsbury Toaster Strudel
8 cans Cream of Mushroom Soup
32 cans Cream of Chicken Soup
54 cans Campbells Chunky and Select Harvest soups
 {do you have any idea what 86 cans of soup looks like in a pantry! Weeeee doggie}
Chances are, most of this soup will end up being donated.  What a great feeling!

Here's the best part!!
I SAVED $186.70!  {$51 of that was coupons which is about half the cost of my 6 month subscription for 5 papers}
I paid only $60.84 for all of that!
That is the magic of combining store sales and coupons!!  It doesn't get much better than that!

P.S. I have been doing this for about 2 years now and I think this may be my longest receipt yet.  What do you think of my "hawwt" slippers?  Guess what's on my Christmas list this year ;-).

Clean Out Those Coupons

Getting ready for the holidays means so many different things to so many different people.  I am itching to get the Christmas stuff out, but I'm one that holds out until after Turkey Day {one holiday at a time thank you very much}.  In the world of coupons, it means that now is the time to start stocking up on baking supplies.  However, before I can tackle the store, I need to do some serious maintenance in the coupon filing department.  Here is a quick list of the inserts you should have in your coupon tote.

New Couponer

One of my favorite things about this job is getting emails from all of you showing off your great deals!!  Losa is a good friend of mine who was waiting AGES to see the class.  I think it was about a month ago that we finally got our calendars in line and I came out and taught her and a few friends.  Well, only a few short weeks later and she is a Couponing Superstar!!!  Check out what she got at Smiths this week!!  This deal is still going on so click here to create your own shopping list and let's see what you can come up with.  But for now.... YEAH LOSA & welcome to the Grocery Gallery, you are now an officiall 'Geek'!!!

Just wanted to show you what I got today for $1.42!!!! (I had a $19 Smith's coupon that just arrived in the mail. So the total went from $105 down to $20.42 which made us pay out of pocket $1.42). Amazing deal! 26 cans of Campbell soup, 4 fettucine bags, 2 ARM & HAMMER detergent, 5 Colgate Whitening Toothpastes, 2 Pumpkin Pies, 1 Cool Whip, 1 can diced tomatoes, 2 bottles of Honest Tea Juice, 2 boxes of slide shot hot pockets. Awesome deals! Thanks, Jen!

Coupon Tidbits

Last minute shopping at Smiths? There's great deals this week to be had at Smith's if the frozen promo works for you and you need some household items (detergent, toothpaste, fabric softner, etc.). Are you a baker? Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming sales for all the stuff you need for those yummy holiday recipes!

What I learned...Last cold season my DH got sick and I found myself at Walgreen's at 10 pm buying OTC medicine! I was sick to my stomach! I didn't have any on hand and ended up paying close to full price! So lesson learned. Cold season is upon us. When you spot good deals on any OTC medicines (even Kleenex!) you might use, stock up. That way you'll have it IF you need it and if you don't need it, you didn't pay FULL price for it anyway!

One list tidbit about coupons. I challenged myself to keep track of my coupon savings. I was sent this cool savings tracker (let me know if you want it I can send it to you!) and I've been tracking my savings since January. Well....drum roll please...I spend $208 on my papers annually and I've saved SO far this calendar year $5400!!! Can you believe it! So simple math says it's WELL worth the paper investment. Give us a call to book your free coupon class and you too can be well on your way to HUGE savings!

Peppery Pork Roast

I thought I would post one of my favorite recipes since pork loin is on sale at Smiths this week. Enjoy!

Pepper Pork Roast
2 med. onions sliced
2 T canola oil
4 lbs pork loin (I've used both pork loin and pork roast)
salt and pepper
3 cloves
2 sticks of cinnamon
1 bay leaf
1 (12 oz) can Dr. Pepper
1.5 cups dried apricot halves
1.5 cups pitted prunes
  • Slice onions and place in slow cooker
  • Heat oil in skillet over med-high heat
  • Season pork with salt and pepper, then brown all sides in skillet
  • Place browned pork on top of onions in slow cooker
  • Add cloves, cinnamon stick and bay leaf to cooker
  • Pour Dr. Pepper over pork and top with dried fruit
  • Cover and cook 3-4 hours on high or 8-9 hours on low
  • Ensure pork is 160 degrees
  • Remove pork from cooker after it's done
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove onion, fruit and spices
  • Discard whole spices
  • Skim any grease from sauce
  • Slice pork (it falls apart!) and serve with onions, fruit and sauce!
I also like to serve the pork over brown rice or mashed potatoes

Oh Boy - I've Created a Monster

You know you're a Grocery Geek when....

Here's a funny little story for ya:  The other day we were spending some good family time teaching the kids how to take care of our new yard a.k.a. taking advantage of free child labor.  Anyway, my 9 yr old and I were cleaning out the muck under the bushes and I kept pulling out ads and such that were all weather worn and wadded up.  As I put them in the pile of gunk, my sweet child says, "Mom!! Why would anyone throw out a coupon!"  Oh boy!!  Look what I have done!

Needless to say, "You know you're a Grocery Geek when... you children have picked up on your coupon habits!"
My husband got a really good laugh out of this one ... and truly so did I!

High Value CPK coupon!

I know it's the last day of the Smith's Kick Off to savings promo, however, I came across this high value coupon for CPK pizzas that are part of the promo! Will make large CPK pizzas $1.99 after the promo! WOO HOO!

Just click HERE and share the video with someone. I emailed it to my DH and was able to print the coupon twice right away. Super easy!

Sneek Peek!!

I am going to try really hard to make this a recurring present for you all on Mondays.  I get a peek at the ads before they are sent to Utah to be added to our amazing Grocery Smarts lists.  Well, I decided to snap a few pics of some upcoming promos to give you a little head start on your savings!!  If you see something you can't live without, start stalking your neighbors for their coupons too!  (remind me to tell you a funny neighbor/coupon story later)...

Here's what I snapped for this week!! These ads are effective 10/13-10/19/10

SMITHS PROMO: Buy 10 items and save $5

Albertson's/General Mills Promo:  Buy $25 worth of the following products and receive a $10 coupon for your next shopping trip.  Remember that these items will ALSO earn money for your child's school with Box Tops!  If you don't have a school to donate to, let me know - I will gladly take them off your hands!

We are going to try our hand at a linking party this Friday, so let us know if you have posted some great savings for this week!!  This should be so fun!!
Happy Savings!!

p.s. Funny story.... We just moved last week and I had my papers transferred (which by the way was super easy - thanks RJ).  Well, we drove by the new house the Sunday that they were supposed to start coming - we hadn't moved yet - and there were no papers!!  DIE!!  I kept forgetting to call the RJ and let them know I was missing 5 papers, but we started moving little things over that week, and one night our new neighbor across the street stopped my hubby and told him that the paper boy messed up and left us 5 papers on Sunday.  So he took them!!  My sweet hubby politely told him that was right and that I use the coupons inside.  Um, honey, did you think to ask him what he did with all my papers?  NO.  Well, being new to the neighborhood, I didn't want to exactly go all coupon cRaZy on him, so I just let it go.  Yes, that's right!  I am now missing a whole week of coupon inserts!!  BOOO!!  Do you have any idea how hard it was for me to not go ransacking their recycling bin?!  {breathe in... breathe out} Live will go on.....

Yummy!

I thought I would post one of my FAVORITE recipes (and did I mention crock pot?). It's so easy and yummy. And it's case lot time at Smith's so most of these ingredients you can find for really inexpensive AND chicken is on sale too! Here you go and enjoy!!

Crockpot Chicken Chili
1-1.5 lbs. chicken tenders (cut into 3/4 inch pieces)
2 cans (15 oz.) diced tomatoes
1 C salsa
2 cans (15 oz) beans—black, kidney, chili (choose your favorites! mix and match)
1 envelope of Taco seasoning
1 C frozen corn
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 red bell pepper, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, pressed or chopped (I use pre-chopped garlic)

Throw everything in a crockpot and set for 6-8 hours! Dinner is served! I like to top it with sour cream and some crumbled crackers.

Side note: you can throw other stuff in there (olives, jalepenos, green bell peppers). Make it your own! I also like to put in whole chicken tenderloins or breasts and when it's done cooking, I take the chicken out, shred it and put it back in. Enjoy!

FREE Cheese!

OK so I just did this deal today and apparently am behind! For many of you smart shoppers you probably already have a freezer full of free cheese and maybe for others it's news! Albertson's is currently having a promo that involves Kraft Cheese and when you buy 5, you'll get a $5 catalina toward your next shopping trip. Check out the current Albertson's list on Grocery Smarts for all the details.

The GREAT news is I came across this $5/5 participating Kraft cheese products coupon (thanks Hip2Save!) and so with the $5 catalina and this $5/5 coupon, Kraft cheese is FREE! Now...it's not any Kraft cheese; buy the Kraft Natural Cheese shredded (most all "flavors" are included). The shredded cheese works in the store promo and for the coupon. Print the coupon Here.

CSN Review

Ohhh, I am so excited about this!  I was just offered an opportunity to write a review for CSN stores!  Remember them from the giveaway a few weeks back?  They have over 200 stores to shop from on their website, so I am completely undecided about what to get and I need your help...
I really want a Dutch Oven since I missed out on Girl's Camp I need some peach cobbler to ease my woes.  But we really need a new waffle iron to serve the masses, and a food scale would really be helpful as I try to shed a few baby pounds.  Then again, I might just need a new purse!
Your assignment:  Leave a comment with your vote on which item I should review, or what item you would get if given the chance.

Fun Tip

Get out your coupons ladies (and gentlemen).... Smiths is doing another coupon "roll-up" starting Wednesday!  Which means that ALL coupon values will be rounded up to $1!!  Why is this so fantastic?  Here's an example:  Chef Boyardee will be on sale for 10/$10 (or $1), and you will use the .35/3 coupon in SS 8/15 which will now be equal to $1/3, and each can will cost .67!  I love this type of sale.  I usually plan at least 2 trips to Smiths during this sale.  For my first trip, I will use my Grocery Smarts shopping list with all the listed sales.  Then, while I am shopping, I plan on a few extra minutes in the store looking for other items on sale for around $1 - I also look for items on manager's clearance.  If I see something that catches my eye, I will write it down then come home and check the Alphabetical Coupon Index to see if there are any matching coupons!!
NOTE: You can only type searches using Internet Explorer

Did you know there is another index for all the printable coupons too!?!

Have fun, and let me know what other deals you can find!!

You know you're a Grocery Geek when....
Your friends see comics involving coupons and 'tag' you!
A friend of mine from choir found this and did just that.  I laughed pretty good when I saw this on my facebook page.  I thought it was hilarious - a little on the sac-religious side - but funny none the less!
Happy Wednesday to you all!!

Polar Bears...in Summer?

Not sure why it has taken me all summer to figure this one out, but my friend told me about this neat Polar Bear exhibit at the Galleria Mall.  She mentioned that they have even cheaper group rates.  With a group minimum of 12 people, you can get a discount for the polar bears and penguins exhibit/activities. It brings the price down to $2/person!

Located on the Upper Level of the mall, next to Kohl's

Ticket Prices:
Adults: $6
Children ages 5-17: $4
Seniors 62 and older: $4
Group rates available, call 267-2171

If I happen to get my act together I will schedule a day and time to go and you can join us for the group rate (we are half the group by ourselves now - sheesh) - stay tuned for that.

UPDATE:  There is a mom's group meeting at the exhibit on Friday Aug 27 @ 10:30am.  They need more people to make a full group.  The J Crew will be there - how fun!!

FREE Cereal!!

UPDATE 8/18: Boo Hoo!! No FREE cereal!  Apparently it was a misprint (even though it's also in the online ad too). $3.49 before discount $2.99 when you buy 8 - select varieties 16.2-25.25 oz boxes.
I'm going to go bawl like a baby right now...I really was excited about this deal.

I picked up the new sale ads for this week and literally squeeled when I saw that the Smith's promo is continuing for another week.  AND then I saw this nugget ...

(so sorry for the pic quality, I snapped this with my phone as fast as I could)
I will admit I was a little miffed because I had JUST picked up 12 boxes of cereal and 5 boxes of granola bars! Dang it!

OK - I wasn't too upset because I only paid $9.63 for all of it!!  You better believe I am going to scour the internet and order more GM coupon inserts from Coupons By Dede.  It may take me a whole other week to track down free cereal, but with this awesome sale and my fist full of cash coupons, I double dog dare you to beat me to the store!

Don't forget to check these other sources for printable and digital coupons (don't forget to print twice):

For my organic friends, Cascadian Farms cereals will be included in the promo too.  They will be $2.49 after promo and sign up to receive a $1.00 off coupon here.

HAPPY SAVING!!!
I would love to see pictures of your grocery treasures and maybe where you store it all - I haven't figured out that part yet.
