I AM A FAN!!
If you have not heard about Bountiful Baskets Food Co-op then you are in for a treat! Bountiful Baskets provides families in the valley with CHEAP INEXPENSIVE produce every week. For $15 you can contribute and receive a basket that is worth anywhere from $30-$50!! You know how much I love a good deal, so this week I picked up my basket, then headed to Smiths to check prices (yes, I am a geek - it's a known fact).
Here's what I got (sorry for the glare):
6 ears of corn, 1 head of romaine lettuce, 1 yellow cauliflower, 2 large tomatoes, 2 very large cucumbers, at least 5 lbs of red potatoes, 3 peaches, 2 pints of blueberries, 1 pineapple, 1 seedless watermelon, about 3 lbs of bananas, and 5 pluots (bonus points if you can tell me what the heck these are).
By my calculations this morning at Smiths, this would have cost me around $30. They didn't have pluots or the yellow cauliflower so I had to guess-timate those. Isn't it fun to try new things though!! And at my classes I always talk about how I plan my meals by what is on sale at the grocery store, right? Well, now this adds a whole new dimension to that project. My kids ate (and LOVED) white asparagus, which they thought looked like french fries, and brussell sprouts! Yes, my 4 kids fought over brussell sprouts! Who knew!
You will want to set a reminder on your phone to log onto Bountiful Baskets on Tuesday morning and place your order. If you wait too long (like I did this week), the location closest to you may be sold out of baskets. Good Luck and I can't wait to hear how you like this fun little system.

We LOVE it too!! Don't pass on the mexican food ingredient packs OR the tortillas, get two packs of tortillas and freeze one. SO yummy. Pluot is a hybrid plum and apricot. very good little treat. I like having the motivation to eat seasonally and I agree that it is great to try new things.
